A Change Of Fortune
Great Chesterford 0 - 3 Ely City A
On the back of a heavy lose Ely were desperate to put some points on the table. Great Chesterford were second from top so it wasn't going to be easy. The reserves were without a fixture, so the A-Team had the opportunity to pick 5 of the reserves finest. They chose Simon Farrow.
Robert Smart and Andrew Smart made their first appearance in the squad this season. Stuart Seekings, Chris Lupson and Stuart McGuire, who were missing from last week, were back on the teamsheet. Jamie Linney was on suspension.
Knowing that slow starts have been their downfall Ely were determined to start lively, and they did. The first half was very much dominated by Ely. A long range half volley by Chris was smashed against the inside post and a well struck free kick from Matt Brodie also tested the wood work. A couple of one on one opportunities were well saved by the Chesterford keeper.
Chesterford weren't without reply with a couple of overtop balls for the defense to clear up. Neil McKnight put an impressive performance in at the back. Luke Fretwell and Adam Scott also covered well for Simon.
The half time score was 0-0. Ely came out fighting. Gareth Arter showed that height isn't always needed to cause a nuisance in the air, winning everything that came his way. It was Stuart Seekings that was first to find the back if the net and Chris shortly added to that with a strong header. Jamie Gayfer was faced with opportunity on goal and he finished with his trade mark lob which he kept hidden last season. Ely were cruising.
Anthony Brumby, Stuart McGuire and Robert came on to finish the game.
It finished 3-0 and a good three points in the bag.
