Good But Very Cold Start

Haddenham Rovers 4 - 5 Ely City A

It was a freezing day and Ely would not have complained if the game had have been called off before the whistle but the ref decided that the ground has safe to play.

Matt Brodie was first to score with a fine long range effort.

I think the cold froze my brain as I can't remember the exact events but I know that Steven Pollard (Polly) was taken out while one on one with the goal keeper and was awarded a penalty (everyone was confused how the offending player managed to stay on the pitch). The keeper made a good save only for Polly to pounce on the rebound. Haddenham had a few long range shots that fooled Andrew Smart.

Ely was awarded another penalty in the second half for a blatant handball on the line (from the same player) who saw red this time. Matt stepped up to score. Jamie Gayfer was also on the score sheet and polly netted a second but I can't honestly remember them now.

Ely made hard work of the game but 3 points in those conditions were gladly accepted.
