2nd Half Let Down

Saffron Crocus 2 - 0 Ely City A

Running out to the pitch at Ickleton, Ely were greeted with freezing cold hard rain. Conditions were not looking good for the game. Fortunately as the referee blew his whistle things brightened up. Ely made a reasonable start, compared to most games this season. There were a few well executed moves. Playing against a tall defense Ely needed to keep the ball low. The Ely defense were coping well and Saffron didn't look likely to score. Gareth Arter rounded a rather adventurous Saffron Keeper but it didn't result in a goal. Ben Cross also had a close range header tipped over the bar.

Ely's second half performance was far from impressive, and they found themselves more on their back foot. Being under fire so much they were eventually going to concede, and they did. The second came not long after. Having said that, both goals would be considered more lucky strikes than well worked goals. Stephen Pollard was definitely missed as Ely never really challenged the Saffron goal and definitely didn't look like scoring.

The highlight was witnessing the return of Ash Colcomb to the Ely side.
